As anybody following along surely knows, it was touch and go there for a bit. I wasn’t even sure I would make it through Oregon. Technically I still have 5 more miles to go, but it should be ok. I only suffered 5 flat tires and my rear tire is about to blow out. I am waiting for a bike shop to open so I can make repairs. Fierce headwinds and rain are in the forecast for another 3-4 days. Hello California.
To gauge my mood and abilities in regards to this trip, I put in a few long days. 75 miles out of Newport and 3500 ft of climbing, followed by my longest day of the trip at 85 miles and almost 4000 feet of climbing (no tailwinds to assist either). It proves I can do this, I just don’t know if I need to. I was so inspired I even snapped a half-a-dozen pictures of the coast, and ate fish and chips in Bandon. Watch out for my attack on Cali.
Justin! Way to go. 85 miles on that rig… With limited daylight! You are still my hero. Have fun in Cali!
